EdgeLab and Cambridge Global Knowledge Nexus (CGKN)

EdgeLab works in close partnership with Cambridge Global Knowledge Nexus (CGKN), a University of Cambridge spinout co-founded by Steven Watson. Together, we share a vision for advancing how knowledge is created, connected, and applied across disciplines, sectors, and global contexts.

A Shared Mission

Both EdgeLab and CGKN are driven by a commitment to exploring complexity and building systems that enable new forms of collaboration, learning, and innovation. Where EdgeLab brings together cutting-edge research in systems theory, AI, ecology, and human–technology interaction, CGKN provides the enterprise structure to apply these insights in practice, connecting academic knowledge with business, government, and civil society.

Bridging Research and Application

EdgeLab serves as a transdisciplinary research studio within the University of Cambridge, developing new approaches to emergent and self-organising systems. CGKN complements this by translating research into actionable strategies and ventures that address real-world challenges, from organisational learning and digital transformation to ecological resilience and democratic communication.

Collaboration in Practice

Through joint projects, events, and initiatives, EdgeLab and CGKN co-create platforms where academic inquiry meets entrepreneurial practice. This relationship strengthens both sides:

  • For EdgeLab, CGKN provides pathways for research impact, policy influence, and innovation at scale.
  • For CGKN, EdgeLab provides a continuous stream of advanced ideas, methods, and evidence from the frontiers of knowledge research.

A Nexus for Global Knowledge

Together, EdgeLab and CGKN form a dynamic partnership at the edge of research and practice. By combining the creative freedom of a research studio with the entrepreneurial focus of a spinout, we work to generate meaningful insights and practical innovations that respond to the interconnected challenges of our time.
